Organic Hemp Bed Linens

Everything You Need to Know

We love our hemp sheets! If you’re wondering why we are so passionate about our bedding, this blog post should answer all your burning questions. But if we’ve missed anything, please don’t hesitate to leave us a comment below and we’ll do what we can to provide an answer.

Why choose hemp bed sheets?

So many reasons! You’ll find hemp bed linens to be durable, beautiful, and without equal when it comes to how these sheets feel against your skin. With their natural high drape, these sheets don’t slide around on your bed (which means we don’t need to add unnecessary and toxic elastics to create fitted bottoms).  Infused with organic Moringa leaves (known to have wonderful skin-healing properties), your skin is pampered while you sleep, remembering that your skin absorbs your environment. With each use, the sheets become softer and more lustrous as the hemp loses a fine layer of protective wax coating with every wash. Made from marvellous hemp, this bedding is kind to the environment, requires less water to produce, and is grown without pesticides. Naturally resistant to mould and mildew, hemp is fully biodegradable and easily recyclable.

Are hemp sheets hypoallergenic?

Yes. Hemp is naturally hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for those with asthma or allergies. Many people who suffer from allergies experience their worst symptoms at night and in the early morning, making hypoallergenic sheets especially important. Though every individual responds differently, it is possible that by improving your sleeping environment, you can improve your entire experience with allergies -- meaning less coughing, sneezing, and discomfort!

Do hemp sheets shrink after washing them?

Like any natural fibre, hemp sheets may shrink slightly if they are dried in an electric dryer. Though you can safely wash your hemp sheets at any temperature (either by hand or in the washing machine on the gentle cycle), hemp bedding does best when hung out to dry in the shade if coloured with our hand eco dyes (note that some natural fading will take place with excessive sun exposure). However, our raw sheets can be washed in any manner with like colours.

With proper care, hemp sheets will become softer and more pliable with each and every wash. Be sure to use only gentle, pH-neutral natural detergents and don’t use bleach or softener, which can damage the hemp fibres and prematurely strip out the natural plant dyes we use.

Because hemp fibres stay fresher longer, don’t absorb odours, wick away moisture, and release stains easily, you’ll probably find that you won’t need to wash your bedding quite as often (let’s not just save time, let’s save water…our most precious resource).

I’m a hot sleeper. Do hemp sheets keep me cool?

Yes. Hemp is highly absorbent and wicks moisture away from the body, helping to keep you cool. Studies have shown that sleeping in a cool environment can improve sleep quality and even your health in general, so this is a very important quality to look for in your sheets! Particularly useful for those experiencing menopausal symptoms.

What is the lifespan of Mandala's hemp bedding?

We guarantee our hemp bed linens for a lifetime. Heirloom manchester like this stands up to the test of time. These sheets won’t wear thin or tear and our organic hemp-cotton blend is eight times stronger than cotton sheets. Your kids will probably beg to take their sheets off to uni with them or when they finally move out!

Why do you only create flat sheets?

Sadly, there is no such thing as organic elastic (don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise). Our obsession with organics knows no bounds: our creations are unapologetically 100% organic. Because hemp sheets lie on the bed so well they don’t move around like traditional cotton bed linens so fitted bottoms aren’t really necessary. And, as a bonus, you don’t need to be an origami master to figure out how to fold your linens!

Where are these linens made?

All of our bed linens are made by hand here in Kobble Creek, in Queensland, Australia. From the designs and pattern-making, to cutting, sewing, washing, hand eco-dyeing, branding, ironing, packaging and labelling - we do it all right here.

I hope we’ve answered your questions about Mandala Dream Co’s bed linens. Not only are these luxurious sheets so comfy you won’t want to get out of bed, you’ll rest easy knowing they were lovingly made by hand from all-natural, organic materials (right down to only using rainwater in each step of the creation process).

If you already own hemp linens, we’d love to hear how you are enjoying them. Don’t be shy - drop us a note and say hello, or tag us in your Instagram post with #mandaladreamco
