CBD is a huge buzzword in skincare right now, but most of you are already well versed on this subject, due to your relationship with the Mandala Dream Co Ecoistic skincare. It’s heartening and flattering how our little ethical, eco, small batch business led the way in this field, but it’s also wonderful that so many and varied brands have now sprung up, awareness is key.
can be derived from both industrial hemp (the variety of the cannabis plant that is considered legal as it contains less than 0.3% THC and is therefore non-psychoactive so it cannot be used as a drug), and also from the psychoactive variety of cannabis known as marijuana.
Unlike THC (short for Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not considered psychoactive, meaning that it won’t get you high. Because of that, isolated CBD is legal in many places where cannabis is not. That being said CBD isn’t legal everywhere so be sure to check your states regulations.
For those who aren’t as familiar as our regular clients, CBD or cannabinoid is brimming with anti inflammatory, hydrating, moisturising and tissue repairing ingredients and naturally has a long list of benefits when applied to our bodies largest organ – our Skin.
CBD is an excellent ingredient for skin care as it has a high affinity for the skin and for the human body, thanks to our very own endocannabinoid system (see my blog here for more info regarding that). CBD is lipophilic, so it’s able to penetrate the top layer of skin beautifully and it's perfect for our skincare formulations.
Here in Australia we are suffering from drought, but that doesn’t mean your skin needs to suffer. As the humidity rises along with the temperature (even though we are just in spring) your skins oil production also is on the rise, resulting in breakouts. For those who experience issues such as eczema, rosacea or dermatitis the heat gives you more grief then you'll ever need.
CBD calms breakouts, inflammation, redness and itchiness whilst hydrating and fighting free radicals protecting your skin from the ravages of everyday wear and tear. Wrinkles and aging are caused by oxidative stress, one of the many problems caused by free radicals. CBD can assist with the appearance of lines and wrinkles and may even protect your skin from future environmental stressors.
If you’re in a cold climate the protective and hydrating properties are second to none. CBD contains all 21 amino acids currently on record, it’s chock full of essential fatty acids Omega 3 & 6 which are vital for healthy skin. CBD may be in a long list of oils known for skin health but it’s even more powerful
then Vitamin A, C or E.
